What is a warrant canary?

A warrant canary is a published statement that a service provider has not received any secret government subpoenas, National Security Letters, or gag orders. Because it is illegal in some jurisdictions to disclose the receipt of such orders, the canary relies on the principle that the government cannot compel a provider to lie. If the canary is not updated, users should assume the service has been compromised.

Canary Statement

As of August 6, 2026, Wispr has not received any national security letters, FISA court orders, or gag orders. We have not been required to add backdoors to our encryption. We have not granted any government entity access to user data. This statement will be removed or fail to be updated if the situation changes.

How to verify

This canary is updated manually at least once every 30 days. You can verify the history of this page by checking the open-source repository's commit history on GitHub.

If it disappears

If this page is removed, returns an error, or the date becomes severely outdated, you should assume Wispr is operating under a gag order. Silence is the signal.
